'Marcha dos Marinheiros' was first sung by Raul de Carvalho in the film 'Bocage', directed by Leitão de Barros in 1936, with music by Carlos Calderon and lyrics by Matos Sequeira and Pereira Coelho; it was included in the Navy Band's repertoire by First Lieutenant Maestro Fortunato de Sousa who adapted it for the Band that made it popular throughout the country.
