Living between tides

The area of the coast subject to the influence of the ebb and flow of the tides is called the Intertidal Zone. Here, life is conditioned by the tides, forcing living beings to have a remarkable ability to adapt to sudden environmental variations. Subject to the impact of the waves during high tide, they suffer the effects of the desiccation caused by exposure to the air at low tide. So, they can withstand wide variations in light intensity, temperature, salinity and other factors, depending on whether they are submerged or out of the water.
