Odontocetes or toothed whales

Odontocetes are distinguished from true whales because they have simple and conical teeth, which appear in variable numbers and are used for fighting. The most curious case is the long, sharp tooth of the narwhal male, which it uses to assert dominance over other males.

There are about 60 species of toothed whales, and dolphins are probably the best known and most admired of all cetaceans.
