Assistant Officer to the Head of the Navy Band

SECOND LIEUTENANT MAESTRO MUSICIAN SAMUEL PASCOAL
He was born in Gançaria, where he started his musical studies learning the clarinet with Professor Simões Ribeiro; he continued his musical studies at the Conservatory of Music of Caldas da Rainha and at the Music School of the National Conservatory in Lisbon. As a young musician, he collaborated with the Portuguese Youth Orchestras and performed in concerts with many different chamber music ensembles. He has also participated in several improvement courses in clarinet, conducting and composition, both in Portugal and abroad.

As a composer, he has been awarded several prizes in competitions and his works are recorded and performed all over the world.
In 2007, after a public tender, he joined the Portuguese Navy Band, where he played the clarinet and, later, became resident composer. In 2013, he finished his studies in Wind Orchestra Conducting at the Higher School of Music of Lisbon, where he studied with Professor Alberto Roque.
In 2019, he took public examinations in the Navy Band to become Naval Musician Officer, and then attended the Complementary Military Officer Training Course at the Naval School, after which he was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant.
Currently, his activity is focused on directing and composition, working not only with professional musicians and groups, but also in the amateur environment, where he develops an intense activity, teaching music courses and workshops and collaborating with the most diverse musical events.
With the rank of Second Lieutenant, Samuel Pascoal is the Assistant Officer to the Head of the Navy Band.
